Saw these fine musicians this evening in Annapolis, MD.
Good show, good time.
Took these with the a900 and the Zeiss 135mm. Just about all were taken wide open and at ISO 1600.

Great shots of a musical group that I enjoy very much.

I've never been able to justify to myself - let alone my wife - the price of a lens like the Zeiss 135mm for what is just a hobby for me, but those shots are certainly forcing me to rethink my budget priorities.

If only I was not worried about whether I would see the next dawn after my wife discovered the price . . .

Bob, just say that you will take beautiful pictures of your wife for the next 20 years. The lens should last that long or longer given proper care. That averages out to about $69.00 per year. Who could argue with that?

What I'm impressed with is there's almost no motion blur at all, pretty hard to get that in dim lighting when people are moving and jumping around.

@ ISo 1600 I was able to get shutter speeds of 125 to 250. Like you Greg, I was suprised as well.

just say that you will take beautiful pictures of your wife for the next 20 years. The lens should last that long or longer given proper care. That averages out to about $69.00 per year. Who could argue with that?

There are two problems with that philosophy.

First - I met my wife 50 years ago last month, and I was already playing with a camera at that time. In all that time I have never taken a picture of HER that she has found satisfactory. (Although she thinks that almost every picture I take of the kids and grandkids is great.)

Second - If one can believe statistics, the probability of both of us being available for the next 20 years to take those pictures is very, very low.

Here is an image of her, taken at a potluck party in July of this year. As art it is nothing special, but I like it as a family snapshot. However, in her eyes it is completely unacceptable . . .
