Any members who live in South East England (and who like motor racing) may want to check out this great little circuit. Yesterday it had a practice day and I took a few shots:-







Notice the sparks under the car in the last one

Cracking shots there - you really get the sense of speed and yet the cars are pin sharp - lovely.

I enjoyed the second shot of the 'Mars Explorer' look-alike!

Yildiz, thats an RX150 evidently. It was the first time I'd seen them in action and the speed some of these are driven at is spectacular!

It just has more appeal than the regular race cars there somehow... such a bug it is! I finally could see the sparks under that racing car and not sure if this is spupposed to happen even though there may be some bumps on the seemingly concrete race track.

Do the cars' lower parts really have to be so close to the surface of the track? Those sparks can start a really dangerous fire if there's any oil or fuel leak under there...or even if there's an already existent spill on the track.

I like the spirit of the race though. : )

How do you like the 70-400mm lens? I am considering getting rid of my old Minolta 300mm and getting the Sony.
Your thoughts would be helpful.

I think its one of the best lenses Sony has produced. It and the Zeiss 24-70 are my main lenses and I think the versatilty of the lens is excellent. (i got rid of my 70-300ssm as i found I was no longer using it) I would whole heartedly recommend to anyone who needs that range/reach. Flickr has a group dedicated to it:-

which will give you some idea of what it is capable of. The cons, such as they are, is the weight, (although i've got used to it) the cost and its size at full stretch.

Yes, they try to get the car as low as possible as a rule. In Formula 1 each car is required to carry a "barge board" that's mounted on the bottom of the car. After the race, if it's ground against the track too much so it's thinner than a specified amount, the car is disqualified.

Don't think Rallycross has a rule like that (if it did I suspect most would be disqualified) but with the different types of surface (tarmac and er, not tarmac) the cars inevitably take a lot of paunishment So things get loose quite quickly if they are not secure in the first place!

some good pics there, you want to go when its actually an msa rallycross event, the events are photography gold for taking great pictures and using great efects.
