Black and White conversion

We went to a local pond recently for something to do......
I took my A700 and the Sigma 400, while my wife took the 7D and Tamron 70-300.
I had a go at converting one of her images to B&W and here is the result.
What do you all think?
I added 15% gaussian noise and adjusted the curves to give more contrast
