Shooting through a fence at the Zoo

Recently popped by my local Zoo to play with my new lenses. It also gave me an opportunity to try shooting through fences. It didn't always turn out quite how I'd hoped but a few came out OK - I particularly like the one below but note the strange bokeh with the straight lines, presumably a focus / diffraction effect from the links in the fence.

Nice photo, Scott. You could probably hide the lighter bokeh with some minor burn and no one would ever know. Thanks for posting this example: there are terns nesting near here on the ground with a chain-link fence between me and them. Encouraged by your success, I'll have to try my luck on these birds.

I've tried photographing through chain link fence before myself at the zoo, with average success, I think the link gap has to be the large type for it to work best, and also you have to almost touch the fence with the lens and lined up properly through the gap...impressive Tiger close up btw.
