Hi all,

Yesterday I tried to shoot with Takumar 50mm f/1.4. It was a bit hard to focus manually, but I liked it.

p.s. I added some sharpness via photoshop.

Thank you for your consideration.

Hi Anne - I prefer #1 and #3 which are interesting portraits as always from you. Not sure about the overhead lighting in #2? I'm not sure about the bokeh from this lens.

I like #3 the best and #1 as well. The facial lighting in #2 is a little strong for my taste (shadows a little too deep, skin may be a little overblown), maybe diffuse the light a little bit?

Thank you for comments... Though I like #2 even if it is overblown :)

The lighting is perhaps a little harsh but then direct sunlight is like that, one can't rustle up a thin cloud cover to soften it on demand. The model has a great complexion so the strong light didn't do her any harm.
Yep I agree with Birma, the bokeh from the Takumar is sort of 'busy' like my 100-300apo but doesn't seem overly intrusive in those shots, you could claim it's an ornamental type background...requires a 'special' lens ha ha.

I guess the bokeh we see here is due to the background + harsh sunlight and not the lens, imo.
I suggest Anne should do some portraiture on a cloudy day and then we see the bokeh.
As for the portraiture, well, Anne is quite good in it.

To tell the truth I like the bokeh in the pictures. I can't explain why, but I like it :)

Hi Anna, : )

Well, congratulatons on the new lens.

Oddly, I sort of like the second shot for going beyond a regular black&white portrait. It's become an interplay of dark subtle patches of shadows against the light. And in fact you could elaborate on such studies until the subject is no longer identifiable and it becomes a whole new shadow and light study in a single frame.

Keep the nice studies up. : )

Hi Yildiz, thank you for your nice comments.

I also like the second shot, it has certain mood and atmosphere.

Actually it is not my lens, I wanted to test it on my sony a55. I'll buy another 50mm for me and then I will keep studying light and shadows :)))

I like it too. My favorites are the B&W shots, but the color one isn't bad either, I just don't think it's framed as well as the others.
