Last weekend I have a bit of time to play with light. For such experiments I usually use my a100, but this time I used my nex-5. It's flash can trigger wirelessly my yongnuo YN460-II only. I used optical cables to chanel the light around various photosubjects. Some results below (with the adapted 100mm macro):

The last one is straight out of camera jpeg, not even the dust spots have been edited out.

Absolutely stunning images!

Many thanks for the positive replies. Few words about the set-up. Recently I played a lot with fiber optic filaments and used them to achive fancy lighting effects. I have a flickr page and a not so frequently updated blog on this topic:

My two latest projects were to create fiber optic based ringflash adapters for my nex and a100 cameras:

While using these adapters came the idea to channel the light not in a standard ringflash way but more around the subject (from the sides) to create a kind of rim light. Ringflash also creates an interesting effect, but the lack of shadows makes most of the pictures dull.
I don't have a picture of the set-up yet, but I will post it soon.
The background was the lid of a praline box. Black and a bit reflective. Not the best option but that's what I found in a hurry. There was no special background in case of the rose. It was in a relatively dark room standing in a vase on the floor.
I used a single flash, a yongnuo YN460-II, which works somehow together with the nex in wireless mode. I covered the flash of the nex to prevent light coming from the camera.
