An Oregon Surprise

Fort Rock, Oregon. Remnants of the homesteading days. We were having lunch at a local diner and we asked the proprietor where we should go next. He said turn left to the road half a mile up the road and it will take you to Fort Rock. What is that? Oh, this big rock rises up from the high desert. Oh, okay. So we headed off to where he told us to go and encountered these remnants of yesteryear (buildings moved to a museum area, nevertheless original buildings from earlier days). And Fort Rock? Across the street, so to speak.
Schoolhouse
General store
Contraption
Always ask the locals. And bring a GPS. Thanks for looking.

Very nice views Almazar. I especially like the little school shot. Looks straight out of the Waltons or Little House

I liked the photos, but I sort of expected to see one of a big rock rising up out of the desert...as well.

There is that picture (actually quite a few). Unfortunately, the rock is mostly obstructed by people in different states of smiling (adults) and frowns (kids). Family vacations...
And, frankly, after all the red rocks from the southwest U.S., Fort Rock, well, looks like just another big brown rock. The homestead era buildings, on the other hand, that I haven't seen before. Serendipity - you never know what's going to happen.
And I have pictures of the high desert. And the clouds from the first picture actually delivered yet another May snowburst. Oregon was sunshine, clouds, snow, rain, sunshine, clouds, snow, rain, ... It is a beautiful state, loved the snow, loved Bend and environs. But, gotta come back later in the year, before October to get to a lot of other places in the same area. Too many roads closed because of heavy snow (in the Bend area).

This is school? Wooow! I like this photo! You named second photo ''general store''. I'm wondering why isn't than focus on store?
