Went to Florida to visit my ailing mother-in-law. Took the Minolta 300mm 2.8 and the Minolta 28-135mm.

Thanks Birma.
Didn't expect much of a response as these shots don't necessarily go together but what the heck. I like them and shots 2 and 3 show off what the 28-135mm (secret handshake lens) can do with the right light.

Hi JBTaylor,

Actually, I've seen the photos earlier but lost track of them, like I sometimes do.

I like them for being down to earth reminders of 'mortality and fragility' of human life, even if that's not what you were going for.
There's a context of tranquility and patience and perseverence in these shots...

Especially the last one... there's a strong, tangiable sense of solidarity.

Thanks for sharing,

Yildiz

Thanks folks. Been away on jury duty and just got back.
This is my first experience with a loved one in decline. My wife has been a real comfort to her mother and I love her even more because of that. I tried to catch something meaningful without being noticed. Captured some others but this one seemed closest to what I was looking for.
My mother-in-law is a retired doctor and she understood what was coming and now that she is living with ALS, I have even more respect for her. The statue sits in a little pond / garden area adjacent to the house. As both of my in laws are older, the property doesn't get the upkeep that it needs. I had a feeling of sadness when looking at the statue as it held out no hope for my mother-in-law. Putting those two images together seemed appropriate. I have been told that I have a dark side. Maybe these shots say something about that.
Sorry to run on like this but these things have been on my mind as of late.

Photography is a good art for searching deep into one's own soul, JBTaylor.

Well done. I think you achieved what you were aiming for. : ) I hope your mother-in-law doesn't suffer much.
