Because of the crappy weather, we went to the butterfly gardens nearby. I tried to challenge myself by only taking a macro lens. I have one, but never do macros. Here are the best shots from today. I'm pretty pleased with the results.

Wow - all wonderful shots Mark - also a great idea for a rainy day (wish I'd thought of that!). I especially like the fist shot as it is an unusual view - great bokeh in all of the shots with the macro lens.

They are all very nice but i like nr 1 most.
what lens did u use??? thinking of buying one mys self and have been looking at the
Tamron AF SP 90/2,8 Di Macro 1:1
or the
Sigma EX 70/2,8 DG Macro 1:1
but i have no idea which to choose, been reading reviews at www.lenstip.com but still don't know...

@Dennis: I use the Tamron you refer to, the SP 90mm F/2.8 Macro. Although CA is a real problem from anything lower than f/4 and the AF/MF switch is your focusring can be really annoying, it's a good lens for the money. Very sharp and good resolution!

A smart decision to go after the butterflies for a change, Mark. : )

I don't particularly have a favourite but the choice of angle in the #1 results in a striking shot, while I love the amount of macro details on the butterflies.

I own a Tamron F/2.8 as well. I don't experience much CA with mine as Mark diclosed but that may be a lens sample issue altogether, I can't say. It is a good macro lens. I enjoyed the photos I took with it.

great shots very clear and sharp good colour, i went to a butterfly farm once the place was very humid and took ages for the camera to demist! my shot were not to great either. well done.

Thank you for the nice comments. I find the first image the best too, although I like #5 as well. I made some shots wide open for a thin DOF and had to discard those for almost uncorrectable CA.

@mike: I know what you mean about the humidity. I had to wait about 10 minutes for the fog to clear the lens and VF haha. The lenspen was used extensively during those minutes

lol just seen where your from i went to stratford on avon, thought wed been to the same place as the butterflies look like the same species

Hi kelly41, maybe there are some species which can be held better inside a greenhouse than others. Maybe that's the reason both 'ours' have a few of the same species. I went on monday too and there were a lot of people with camera's, but little Sony shooters as far as I could tell.
