Gokarts

In todays practice i have tried to capture speed with various results, my friends kid had gokart practice so i went there to work on my speedy images :)
this are the better ones of the 486 pictures today, sorry 485 i took a picture of an airplane as well :D
i found it really difficult to capture the "speed" and keeping the object in fokus, any one has any tips/ideas

Use the track focusing. It really helps.

Not bad Dennis, it looks like the focus just about kept up, I think about 1/60sec from side on will show background motion if you can pan with the cart accurately, you probably will end up with some keepers and quite a few duds, I took some race cars moving fairly quickly at that shutter speed and the background was fairly blurred and the cars were reasonable but you have to use around 150mm or more.

Hi Dennis,

I track birds all the time and have the same issue as you do. Most important is shutter speed. As Greg mentioned, various shutter speeds will give variable effect to the background. I always use Continuous AF mode on moving targets. If you have focus limiter available on your lens try to use it. It can help focus speed. I noticed lenses go to infinity first before going to the correct focus distance. By setting my lenses to infinity manually before focussing for the shot, AF will lock faster.

thanks for all the good advises most try them soon.
the pics above is in shutter priority and speed is around 1/1000 1/2000
so i have some panning moves to practice to get down to 1/60 :)
