Sony WPO workshops

Went to two excellent workshops on Saturday and Sunday run from Somerset House, London as part of the WPO exhibition and one on portraits the previous weekend. On Saturday it was a Landscape workshop with Duncan McEwan and Successful panning and Sports on Sunday with Dominic Fraser. On the former had the opportunity to try the Nex7 and yesterday the A77. Have to say given the little time i had to familiarise myself with them (i normally use the A900) I was impressed with both cameras.

The Nex 7 was the hardest to get to grips with but what first really impressed me was the image quality of it and after awhile i found it a great little camera. The A77 i found very easy to use (compared to the A57 i used last weekend) and well laid out and again was impressed with the image quality.

Big thanks to Sony for these, but what surprised me was there were not more sony users on them. Maybe next time there'll be more coverage on them in the UK and on the related forums.

Nice images and nice cameras too to boot. What is WPO exhibition? Just curious.

Interesting pictures Caporip. Were there any of the cameras that would tempt you to move on from the A900?

I'd have been very interested to compare the Nex 7 and A77, and to hear people like Duncan speak. I hope they run further events.

Hi Sury

WPO is World Photographic Organisation whose awards are currently sponsored by Sony:-

I was impressed with both the Nex 7 and the A77 but not enough to tempt me from the A900. The A77 i found instinctively easy to use and if the A99 is anything like it I would be tempted but only when the A900 packs up! I would have liked more time with both cameras as it was a steep learning curve particularly finding my way, to a limited degree around the menus on the NEX7 (I did manage to gat a nice pano from it though!)! Btw I am up to Skye in July so hope to do a few shots there and maybe check the boat hiring!

That is interesting to know Richard. Full frame is too big a step for me, but I am interested in either the Nex 7 or A77 ... at some point! I'm looking forward to your July shots in Skye :)
