Catch of the day...

Unread post by DennisG »

thought i start a new topic about daily catches, pictures don't have to be 100% perfect
No rules whatsoever, they only have to look cool and have the yea/wow feeling or you just like it allot :)
if u want leave a story/description on how the image was taken or what it means to YOU :)

Feel free to post :)

I start with this one i took today, handheld 70-300 and natural light, i chased that bee from flower to flower trying to get the landing/takeoff and this was the best i could accomplish :)
i like it even that focus is on the flower instead of the bee

I really like that butterfly picture Dennis - great eye contact, and fabulous background :)

Interesting idea for a thread Dennis. Here is my attempt, from today's walk in the woods. Came across this narrow path and decided to try some of the Nex 5's scene modes. This is the "Toy Camera" mode which I quite liked.

I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong, but using the LA-EA1 and the Tamron 60/2, I was unable to change aperture which was stuck wide open at f/2. I quite liked the limited dof it gave in this picture. This 'feature' also affected the very usable and useful multi-shot low light mode which was more disappointing.

Birma, I think in "Toy Camera" mode the aperture remains wide open. Nice shot BTW.

Thanks Doc :)

You're right! It seems that most of the fancy scene modes all use the attached lens wide open, even the Nex lenses. Its just the way its meant to be. Only had the camera 10 months and just worked that out :)

@Dennis: what a neat shot of that butterfly! Focus is spot on, the DOF is very pleasant and I like the way the cooler blueish green color of it's body is in contrast to its very green surroundings!

@Birma: that looks a lot like the Instagram images my brother makes with his Android phone. Nicely done.

Congratulations on the on the fine idea of creating such a thread, Dennis. : )

The starter shots as 'catch-of-the-day' can easily challenge a thorougly thought-over photo. Impressive butterfly shot.

The thread already proves to be prolific with different approches of photography.

The beetle looks like it's carrying a dust bunny with it. No need for those on your sensor like this

You're going to love the Tamron 90! It's rather popular and that's deserved I think!
