Here are some West Texas windmills on a stormy day. Next will be some West Texas Cadillacs.

You made some good choices on the first Cadillac image.

I thought Cadillacs are the cars for colorful people, but colorful Cadillacs? That is an interesting twist.

I think when the Cadillacs first had their heads buried they had their original paint, but over the years people have painted them and put lots of graffiti on them. On several road trips throughout the West I have found myself along this highway near Amarillo so I usually stop for a few minutes. They are just a couple hundred meters off the highway in a field.

I think you can pretty much expect these days that just about anything that isn't guarded is going to get covered with graffiti eventually. The Cadillac Ranch has sort of become a minor American icon, I think. I had heard about it before the Bruce Springsteen song in 1980, but the song certainly helped it gain some of its fame.

Very nice series Henry- I've been by the Cadillac Ranch before, but didn't stop to take photos.. I love driving out in West Texas where the large wind farms are.. The effect of all those blades turning slowly, at slightly different speeds is quite mesmerizing. The shot with the train cars and pump jack is a nice combo... Three different eras of technology, past to present. I think it is my favorite. John

Yeah, lots of wind farms out there. On the road trip we just finished we saw many wind farms throughout the Great Plains states also.

I have heard of that Cadillac ‘art’ before Henry, but I could never figure out what ‘statement’ the arteest was trying too make, it was quite strange too my sensibilities to see cars sticking up out of the ground so it left me a bit confused as to the point of the exercise, but interesting and well taken photos of it just the same.

The wikipedia entry I linked to has more info about it. Art comes in many forms and different kinds appeal to different people.

Love the graffitized Cadillacs...but it's weird, somehow, that the first shot of the buried Cadillac shots from the distance should remind me of the had sculptures on Easter Island. They do have that kind of an ancient look.

Thanks, Yildiz. Now that you mention it, they are a bit reminiscent of the Easter Island statues. I would love to see those someday.
