I posted this video in a response to David's review of the NEX7. This is a work in progress video of a recent trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks in Wyoming (and Idaho and Montana). Basically a vacation home video.

The driving in the parks video were shot using a HX9V point and shoot mounted on a RAM suction mount on the hood of the SUV. Most of the other videos were shot with the NEX7 using the Sony 18-200mm lens. The closeups (osprey, closesup of the multicolored waterfall, the moving shot of the falls with the mountains in the background were taken with the A77 and the 70-400G, the deer).

I am beginning to think that the A99 (or whatever Sony labels it), 24mp full frame, would be the ideal camera for video and for landscape photography. Nonetheless, Sony makes extremely capable equipment that I love using.

Very nice video Winston. I would not have been able to tell that that was shot on different cameras at all (although I wasn't watching in HD). One of the really appealing things was the lack of traffic . The pleasure of driving on open roads.

Thank you for the kind words and for liking the video. This was the first time that I took a fair amount of video in addition to the photographs. Yellowstone and the Tetons are incredible and must sees. I know everyone wants to visit the Grand Canyon, but honestly these two parks (and Bryce and Arches National Parks) have more appeal to me. The flag was at half mast because a park ranger in Mt. Ranier National Park died earlier in the week in trying to rescue stranded hikers.

Also, Yellowstone gets about two million visitors in the month of July and August so the wide open roads becomes somewhat clogged by traffic. The thing is, Yellowstone is larger than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined. About 3500 square miles.

Lovely video. I'm amazed that there was no shake at all while you were driving. The smooth transitions are very much welcome.

I did so too. Great video. I find the parts on the road very smooth, well done! Good choice of music too. The majesty of the score suits the video well.

Excellent - the experience of video shooting with the NEX-7 is, I think, different from that of still shooting and for video use I prefer it to the A77. Looks like the June weather was exceptionally fine and the countryside was not too dry, despite all the fire problems in so many places.

Thanks for the comments. It was a wonderful trip, though I am sure the grouchy teenagers with us could outgrowl any animal they run into. There was an unfortunate accident at the Tetons though. One car flipped over a road and killed a baby grizzly. When the driver was asked what happened, he said he tried to avoid another driver who made a sudden U turn (in order to see the bear). The Park Service said that young animals have not yet learned to deal with the human influx effectively.
