Monochrome is my first love. Here is a shot of the lighthouse on the Lizard peninsula, Cornwall. I have no idea why it's called the Lizard by the way. It was taken some time ago with my A700 and 28-75mm KM. It never did look very impressive in colour but I redicscovered it recently, converted to B&W and made a lot of tonal adjustments to arrive at this.

Very dramatic indeed, Bob. Very seldom I see landscapes where clouds dominate the terra firma.

That's a nice dramatic view Bob, it looks like the lighthouse was actually working at the time.

Thanks for the nice comments. The great thing about black and white is that you can make some huge tonal changes for effect and get away with it. The original image is not nearly as dramatic. The light was indeed working as it was approaching dusk at the time. Although all the lighthouses in Britain are now automatic there are a few that you can visit. This is one of them. It is well worth a look around. The huge rotating lens floats on mercury and was made by Chance in Birmingham a long time ago - probably 1920s.

That is a perfect subject for B/W, and I like that you waited for the light to be pointing at the viewer, it adds to the drama. Of course, the shot has plenty of drama without that light too!
