One of the surprises of Fairbanks is this little gem of a museum that houses about 84 Antique American cars and the original
period costumes.

What a glorious collection Sury. They look to be straight out of an Al Capone movie . How did they all end up in Alaska?

Good question Andy. I could not find how they ended up there. I almost dismissed the visit (since rest of the family is not
into it), wondering why waste good money on "some" museum in far reaches of the country. I was glad we made the trip.

Thanks for the very interesting photos, Sury. Of all places--Fairbanks. The collector seems to be heavily into Packards (the grand old cars with the distinctive red hexagons on the hubcaps). Thanks very much for sharing these.

Aside from the nice looking vintage automobiles, it looks like the museum did a great job with the presentation as well. Thanks for posting the pictures - now, aside from the museum, what is there in Fairbanks to see?

There are some Hot springs about 10 miles outside Fairbanks, the pipeline viewing is about 5 miles drive.
There are couple of parks that are supposed to be excellent vantage points for bird watching but that would
be seasonal. There is a working dairy that you could see. I read that University of Alaska, Fairbanks is a nice
place to visit and it is one of the 10 spots to watch McKinley but we missed it. That's pretty much what I could
recollect. I think they do have quite a few day long events planned but you need check that out for the days
of your stay. I am sure it is the northern most launch point for various Alaskan tours, sled rides etc.

One wonders on which tundra they drove these 'gentle-care-requiring' cars were driven at one time. They look more like saloon cars. : )

There were some photos of these cars being modified for snow driving. But I would speculate that all these cars were their
"summer rides since in Summer, the weather is quite warm and we did not find any icy roads all the way into about 100 miles
north of Arctic circle. Fairbanks was no different than any California city in the month of June, weather wise and road conditions wise.

What beautiful cars. Where I live in England there are quite a few car museums as Coventry and Birmingham were the centre of the car industry, but I don't know of any Packards. Most of our cars were a bit smaller!

Rolls and Bentleys were smaller? Packard was a very high end car. In fact, during WWII, Packard was chosen by Rolls to produce it's V-12 for aircraft and PT boats.
