30 seconds at f/8, 28-75mm SAM at 28mm, tripod and ISO 100 - SRB Variable ND filter set at around 6.5 stops density. Roughting Linn, near Lowick, Northumberland - it's a very popular photo subject and the tripod holes for this shot are rather too well worn, I think every photographer in the north must have taken it. But this was our first visit. Shirley didn't like the path and didn't make it to the waterfall, must admit I nearly slipped on the way back but was moving fast enough to use momentum to avoid a fall. No issue at the waterfall end, trees and rocks provide fairly easy access across the stream.

It's the first time in a while I've taken the A900 out and the files are reminding me why I like it better than the A77, even if they don't always seem to have the same 'bite'.

The A900 has been made to take picture ... this is the reason why every time we touch it ... there is a strange feeling with it.

Nice shot. You are right about the tripod holes though. Here is my version taken in 2009. I took one like yours too but it was difficult to avoid some branches intruding into the top of the frame. It was taken with the A700 and the 16-80 CZ, 6 secs at f13. I expect I used a neutral density filter too, but I can't remember. I think I have gone a little over the top with the Silver Efex Pro 2 conversion. Right next door are some really good examples of those prehistoric enigmas, the 'cup and ring' marks. So here also is a pic of those for interest sake.

I'm glad you made the trek, David. That's a neat little site even if it is over-photographed. I like your treatment of it very much.

I was there a few years ago, but used Mimiya 645, so can't post my pics to this forum. Besides, they weren't particularly successful. I agree - access is trickier than it looks and care is needed getting down to the level of the stream. It's strange in that the tree cover is so dense it feels as though you are in a cave! Also, it isn't marked on the standard OS maps, though many photographers know about it, making it one of the worst-kept 'secret' locations!
