Chess figures

My little son has been demanding more and more chess playing with me. I have to confess I'm not a very good player but sometimes I have chance against my 5 and half years old. We play with an old nicely carved wooden set and I just thought that it's a very nice subject and my rim light would bring out the details very nicely. Setting up was easy. I just used an external 5600 HSD with my DIY rim light adapter and a macro lens (sigma 50mm) on my a100 (hand held). Some selected photo:

Hi Marcell,

I especially like the way the carved faces are stylized. The rim light makes them ultra real for a photo subject; it's been like looking at portraits instead of meer wooden art work. The art reminds me of carvings by the Frican tribes or the natives living on the many islands in Atlantic Ocean.

They are from Hungary and a distant relative made it long time ago. It was my intention to make the photos as they would be real portrait pictures.

The light certainly does a great job enhancing detail and contrast, and the pieces are a work of art, lovely workmanship, what were those a King, a Queen and a Bishop? Where’s the Knight and the Castle?
