I am not a bird photographer. Though this could go into birds2012, since this is not about bird
as much as it is an atypical capture, I thought I post it separately. I don't believe this one has
any redeeming qualities to be in Birds2012 judging by the contributions there. You can see the
silhouette of the bird on its own wing.

One of the things I like the most about PCA is that all kinds of photographers are welcome to chime in and contribute their experiences and photographs here without being shunned by more experienced photographers or people who think they are.

Although you might think bird photography isn't your forté, it doesn't mean you cannot share your image in the themed topic! I very much like this BIF, even with the shadows under the wings and the top of the gulls body. Capturing birds in flight is a VERY hard thing to do and to be honest, you managed very well. I have never captured a bird in flight that sharp!

Please do not hesitate to contribute to the Birds topic in the future! I never held back posting my flower shots even though you clearly better me in that department!

Hi Sury,
I think the shadow is interesting enough to reverse the question to ... a bird with shadow worth two without.... If you have the usable pixels, it might be interesting to experiment by croppng out all the background and parts of the bird to have a composition of just the gull body, the wing with shadow silhouette, and just a little more for balance....

As Mark says - all birds in flight, especially some unusual pose make interesting shots - the shadow is a nice bonus

This one is a crop already. I will certainly experiment as you suggested and see how it comes up.

Here is a crop that I felt is the tightest with a bit of background for balance. I am glad I had A900 with me on that day. This is about 70KB and the original is about 16MB

In principle, I think it's a nice composition, forcing the eye to shift back and forth from the bird's head to the head's shadow. The effect is eerie enough to claim that it's a frame from an Alfred Hitchcock film, which would explain the "grain." Tippi Hedren watch out

I think the first one is a quite good action shot Sury, better than any BIF I’ve managed to do I think.
