saw some photos of Yosemite Ansle Adams so i thought i would try some scanning and converting to mono,
negs dont seem to be as sharp or clean as i though there was lots of dust and the negs have never been out of there pouches since they where taken.

That is a very dramatic scene Mike. I can imagine that scanning is an art in itself. Is it possible to get some more contrast in to the foreground trees?

I do like it but agree with Andy about the trees.

If you get them to pop out more, it would accent the immense sea of trees heading in the valley. That would make this great shot really awesome!

i agree my Yosemite photo needs to be enhanced if any of you chaps out there would like to have a go i would not mind in fact i would welcome it.

Hi Mike, Here is my attempt.
Basically the PP was to increase exposure and add a little more contrast. 5 mins in LR4.

It is a fabulous scene and there is a lot of detail there. It has made me think more about B&W landscapes. Any more of Yosemite?

I am not familiar with the scanning process and the intricacies involved.
Is that a cumbersome job? Just curious. I like the vista presented in the
shot, though Mark has a point.

I took the original and Andy's tweaks, and combined them. Toned down the Mountains a tad,
brought out the rocky crop on the right using painting with light, tweaked brightness, contrast a bit.
Took about 3 mins.

Hi Sury - not at all . It is very interesting to see other people's PP approach. We're always learning. I struggle especially with B&W conversions and I found Mike's original had great scope for adding the sort of contrast I struggle to get in my own shots.

i am happy that you have had a go, problem i find is in scanning negs is i find dust spots when image is enlarged probably. would not notice on prints not so sure about projector at my club though . i have been going over them with healing tool! but only the more obvious ones, i do have dust removal on scanner but it does make image softer. i don't think i will be going to Yosemite again unfortunately. still using a700 it will have to last.

I have what is now defunct Polaroid dust and scratch removal utility. I can try using it and see if it helps.
You can post your original here or let me know where I can get it from and I will be more than happy to
give it a try.
