This could go into Flowers 2013 tpp but choose a separate thread to highlight that
this is done using PWL. The shot was taken with
Tamron 60mm on A900 resting on kitchen counter (IS off), bulb mode, 37s exposure
at ISO160 and f22. I took a small flash light and covered it with twice folded tissue paper
and made a small pin hole in the middle and went about painting the flower with light.
It was one of those silly experiments I did when I came home to a empty house. Missus
and daughter were out for a pedicure. You can see some serious hot pixels in the image.

Well I think it worked very well Sury, nice job and pretty flower. (I bet there might have been a couple of practice runs)

It was a flashlight and not a flash. My apologies for the confusion and misleading phrasing.
I should have said flashlight instead of flash light.

The experiment works nicely. I like the soft light and the brighness of the flower. Can't figure out what that blue patch of colour is but I like the overall shot. : )

That was the flashlight gotten into the field of view of the lens. It was dark room.
I was standing to the right of the camera facing the flower. That's why the right side
of the flower is "brighter" than the left since I had to reach over the lens to the left side
of the camera making sure (in the dark) that my light stays outside the angle of view
of the lens. Since it was Tamron 60mm, the angle is quite wide. In the process of trying
to get more coverage I might have had light shine on chair frame which was to the right
of the flower as you are looking at the flower.

PWL = Painting With Light

The idea being you have your subject in dark, go to bulb mode,
and then shine the selected portions of subject with light there
by capturing the image with controlled light exposure. The narrower
the beam, finer the control will be, to expose your subject.
My experiment was to just expose the middle of the flower with
gradual dimming radially. Since I could not get finite beam, I tried
to cover the 5cm wide flashlight with a tissue and made a pin hole.
I guess I should have used a card board to cover up and used a pin
hole.
