I'm trying to learn lighting and manipulating light. It's a ton of fun, but hard at the same time. I'm now in the stage of trial and error.

As I'm the only test subject who is available when I want, I use myself to practice. This set is for those Brits familiar with BBCs Dr. Who series, especially the newer ones. One of the doctors foes are Weeping Angels, statues who move in to eat/kill you when you are looking away from them. Pretty scary stuff... sort of This set is inspired by them.

As far as lighting goes I used 2 flashes set up as follows:

First image:
Camera: a580 + CZ16-80 @ 50mm, 1/125, f/5.6, ISO100.
Master - Sony HVL-F43AM bare behind my head for a bit of contour. Set at 24mm, power 1/64th at about 60 cm.
Slave - Yongnuo YN460-II on the ground in front of me at a 45 degree angle up, white shoot trough umbrella over it. Used it as fill for my hands. Power 1/32th.

Second Image:
Camera: a580 + CZ16-80 @ 50mm, 1/125, f/5.6, ISO100.
Master - Sony HVL-F43AM bare behind me under the shoulders for a bit of contour. Set at 24mm, power 1/64th + 0.7EV at about 1,2 meters.
Slave - Yongnuo YN460-II on a stand on camera left, pointing at my hands at about 80 cm. Shot through a white shoot trough umbrella. Used it as fill for my hands. Power 1/32th.

Third image:
Camera: a580 + CZ16-80 @ 50mm, 1/125, f/5.6, ISO100.
One flash only, the Sony at camera right pointing at my hands at about 60 cm. Shot through a white shoot trough umbrella. Used it as fill for my hands. Power 1/32th.

Fourth image:
Camera: a580 + CZ16-80 @ 24mm, 1/125, f/5.6, ISO100.
One flash only, the Sony exactly under the camera. At about 40 cm under my face. Shot through a white shoot trough umbrella. Power 1/32th.

Mark,
2,3,1 and 4 are my preferences. IMHO, 1 would be fantastic, if the sharper edges off
your right shoulder and the ears or at the least made less bright.

Your profile change has really thrown me off.

I changed my avatar since the old one was 3 years old. It's my "Seriously? Are you out of your frickin' mind?!?!" look

I'm very uncomfortable with our new avatar. Can't help it. Suddenly that friendly face I put to our Mark's has gone down in pieces!
My prior worry is related to your Birds thread; when you restart posting the lovely, fragile, sweet bird shots of your woods, I wonder how your new avatar will look next to all that soft and sweet beauty.
