Last Saturday was the Wine and Harvest Festival of Areni, a small village in Armenia, very very old, forgotten by time and by the world and yet remains one of the cradles of civilization.

Remember that old shoe found a few years ago, that same 5500 yrs old shoe preserved extraordinarily well? Here's a picture of it (not mine) and


here's an article on it. I'm sure you'll be interested .
Anyway, it's that village in question: Areni.

Let's begin our concise journey with the cave where the shoe was found.

It's the same place where obviously the earliest winery was unearthed.

Don't even think that it should be a modern village, rich and prosperous. Not at all, but a proud and happy one. See for yourself.

a fascinating place to visit and not overcrowded with tourist i imagine, a photographic dream. the wine must be very tempting and if don't mind me saying the young lady is a very pretty girl to boot.

Great shots of a fascinating subject

Great series Doc. A very interesting place, and I can imagine that the wine, cheese and bread were delicious .

This was a nice walk around, in the village, Dr. Harout.

I love them all and am very impressed with the bread makers and the wine processing...the fruit looks so healthy and divine... Like a shrine of vines and wine.


Thanks for sharing and good timing too, considering the season.
