Thank you Greg and Andy. It is a travesty that I haven't traveled this part of California
in 20 years despite being only 3 hours of driving away. Now that my wife and I have become
what is commonly referred to here as empty nesters, we began taking the weekend trips more
regularly. That coast is much more beautiful than I could ever do justice. I have to see what missus
has planned next. Yes, she has come to terms with my proclivity with photography and she
incorporates my vice into the trips.

Looks like a great place. I'd say the first or second one is best of the bunch. First oen fits nicely into a frame, but I also like second one because it shows the red roof. It's a good color combination with the blue sky and white walls.

To play games with names, here are some additional photos of a Cabrillo Lighthouse on the coast of California.

However, these photos - which I took in 2009 with my A700 - are not from Point Cabrillo, but from Point Loma, at San Diego Harbor and about 400 miles south of Point Cabrillo.

Why do I call it a Cabrillo Lighthouse if it is on Point Loma? Because the lighthouse is located on Cabrillo National Monument, which is part of Point Loma.

Thank you. It's one of my favorites also.

It's one of the rare cases where I actually planned a shot instead of just recognizing it in front of me. I saw the ship heading out of San Diego Harbor when I was standing at the Cabrillo statue, and hustled to get to where I could capture both it and the ship in the same image.

I was very fortunate in going to the Cabrillo monument with a group that was allowed to stay well past the closing time one night, and to come in well before the normal opening time the next morning. As a result, I was there long after sunset, and came in more than an hour before sunrise the next day, which normally would not have been possible.

The first image below was shot at about 6AM on an overcast morning, the second at about 9AM, and the last one at about noon after all the overcast had burned off. The first image is of the lighthouse, the second was taken just to provide a reference for the size of the statue, and the last one is of the terrain between the statue and the lighthouse and light keeper's home. As the last image in my previous post shows, the statue is well above sea level, so the light should be high enough to be seen for a long distance in clear weather.
