I couldn't get him to hold his wings all the way open. Something has chewed on him a bit. Taken with the a6000 and the Sony-Zeiss 24 1.8 and cropped of course.

Ouch. Interesting antennae(?). Look like a feather or a quill. Good catch Pitter.

Thanks yes that lens almost doubles as a macro lens with cropping.

That's a pretty sharp shot. I'm no moth expert, but I was told that the feathery antennae indicate it's a male and that is how it senses the female's pheromones when searching for a mate. At least that's the response given to me when I posted this picture on a bug identification site.

And I might mention that yours looks like an Automeris, possibly an Automeris argentifera. But once again, I'm no expert.

Thanks for that info the hefay. My moth does look something like Automeris argentifera but it's only about two and a quarter inches wide. I have a good source for Colombian butterfly identification but I would love to find a source for moths.
