Surprisingly, county policy at the landfill is quite strict (even for customers). I was approached by a county employee and informed that I had to register at the front gate if I were going to take pictures. Sensitive material I suppose. Hence, none of these images look studied at all are in fact are quite hurried. Such is life.

An interesting perspective and a (grim) reminder of abuse people inflict upon nature and natural resources.
Nice choice to go with B&W and that adds another dimension to the already depressing subject matter, IMHO.

Not so depressing for me as it takes many people working very hard over many disciplines to manage this activity. I am more fascinated by it. It does scream B&W though. I only wish the forum background wasn't gray. Images lose some of their punch.

Good photos. Landfills are not the most reliable ways of discarding off of human-related-garbage, usually the deteriorating material contaminates the rainwater that eventually is used as drinking water for humans and animals. I guess that's why Sury was sensitive to the pictured drama. Some authorities may not agree with these photo shoots because your photos document the kind of chemicals or hazardous metals that are going to be hidden away from the curious and inspecting eye of more sensitive environmentalist authorities.

I believe the background colour of the forum was unintentional. David Kilpatrick mentioned that the new forum software update did not comply with the custom-coloured layout. He mentioned this in the Board Announcements section on April 23rd , in "It Will Never Look The Same" thread.

Thanks for commenting Yildiz. It's been a while and I hope you are well.
I simply have not done enough reading on the subject of waste disposal to know if my local government is doing the best possible job of meeting a human need in an environmentally intelligent way. If not, it's not for lack of effort. As for allowing photography, I assume it's an effort to limit liability. Big machines, sharp objects, and trip and fall hazards abound. No point in allowing photographers to add another distraction. It makes sense. I may still make an effort to get out there under supervised conditions. It is a target rich environment.

My son was preparing for his speech and debate tournament 6 years ago. The topic: Landfills.
The research into subject influenced him so much that in a month he will be graduating from
collage in Environmental Sciences and wants to get into Environmental Policy making eventually.
So, JB, narratives like yours do have an impact (positively) on people.

If you go back there, just be careful as to where you may be standing or stepping into/onto because while photographing enthusiasm and composition awareness sometimes get in the way of acting cautiously.

Thank you JB. He can use all the wishes as he is discovering his ideals may be costly in terms of opportunities. Computer science or electrical engineering would have been a different story. But one needs to follow one's passion, right?
