The elusve fogobw

I've never seen anything quite like this. As the fog was lifting I noticed what appeared to be a cloud shooting up from the ground. Then I realized it made a complete arc.

Amazing indeed. So this is how a rainbow overexposed and in b&w looks like? :D

I'm not sure what caused it. It didn't have the size that a normal rainbow has and appeared to be quite close to me. Perhaps this is what rainbows look like to my color blind brother. :)

That's something rare indeed.

Apparently, it happens when the fog droplets are far too small and the diffraction of light through these tiny droplets completely wipes out any colours that may appear, hence forming only a fogbow instead of a rainbow.

Thanks for the explanation Yildiz. It was gone about as soon as it appeared. It was truly one of those situations of being in "the right place at the right time."
