Selective Color

It was a gray day at the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, MD. When scrolling through the menu choices for selective color, I wondered why anyone would choose yellow. Well, I found out why. This image is not that much different from what I saw. Yes, the yellow is bumped up a bit but it's not that far from reality.

The yellow is nicely standing out and ..almost adds more to the 'expression' that this piece of machinery has on the front. (It's almost like a square face)

Building on the same concept, I decided to use the raw file and just desaturate (the images above are a jpeg effects setting). It gives you an idea about the color profile while still favoring a B&W perspective.

These are very spectacular, JBTaylor.

The selective yellow works for this subject just fine. I like all but the crane and its bouncing yellow hooks and the stairs up to the wagon's landing steal the attention. I love the sign of warning though, which reminds us of how dangerous these transport vehicles are while they are 'living' proof of the transport technology on rails; consideration for fragile human life while heavy with metal that can be perceived as a monster, metaphorically.
