Dragonfly on the wall

This guy was just hanging out right by my front door tonight so I was able to grab my lens and give it a go. I shot several with different lenses angles and wireless flash in different locations. This shot was with the Minolta MD 70-210 f4. I can't remember exactly, but I think the aperture was f11.

Jeff,
The softer parts in the second one are bit too jarring for my liking, unlike the first one.
It could be the lens, lighting or looker (me ). I too like the first one more.

JT and Sury, I like the first one better myself. The only thing that changed in the second one was the position of the flash. And it created quite a different look.

With the Sony 16-80cz. I wish he hadn't been so close to the corner of the wall so that the end of his wings would be disappearing into the black, but it is where he wanted to stay.

This one is without the flash and is with the Sigma 18-35.

That's a very nicely-taken 'Southern Migrant Hawker - Aeshna affinis', I believe. Common in the southern parts of the World apparently. The amount of lacey details is very impressive. A pity that it rests so close to the corner of the building. I like the texture of the wall's surface though. Gives all the nice details of the wings a chance to pop up from the surface.
