A couple of great horned owls were in the yard today. Hopefully they'll nest somewhere close like they did last year. Here's a photo of one of them.

Cool shot. Which lens is it? I can see the right eye in sharp focus though the background
is camouflaging the Owl itself quite a bit.

Which Tamron 70-300mm? I think there have been 3 or 4 A-mount versions.

Henry, it's the Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di USD. I know there was an earlier 70-300 that was a macro. This one is not. Also, its optics are be better than the macro version. Those are the only two I know of, but that doesn't mean a thing. :D

Okay, thanks. From what I recall there have been 7 of these AF Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 lenses over the years, but yours is the latest. Over the years the cosmetics have changed, but I don't know about the optics.

Wow, I had no idea that there were so many versions. As far as optical quality, I can't really say from personal experience, because this is the only version I've used. However, I've seen some less than stellar reviews of the previous macro version which, by the way, is still for sale at B&H and other retailers.

I use same Tamron SP 70-300 4-5.6 USD. According to Dyxom and others sources it's way better than old Tamron AF 70-300 or 75-300.

PS. Nice to see the owls coming back.

The owlets are growing and this one has made its way to a different tree to get its lunch.
