On a recent trip to Lick Observatory on Mt. Hamilton in the eastern hills of Silicon Valley.
More info here http://ucolick.org/main/explore/about.html

View of Silicon Valley from Mt. Hamilton. The water on the upper right is the southern tip of San Francisco Bay.

This is the smaller telescope. The biggest is a 3 Meter telescope near by. This one is 1 Meter refractive telescope.

South San Jose. The street lights are "ugly" orange lights pointing down. City of San Jose chose this scheme to minimize light
pollution at Lick. Making it easy for the Observatory to filter out a single light frequency and lose minimal information.

Nicely photographed, Sury.
The location of the observatory, the mist of city lights and the celestial body, known to us as our Sun, setting over the landscape is wonderful. A wonderful spot to remember that we are life-bound space creatures living on our own very unique celestial body, Earth.

Were you able to look through either of the telescopes?
Thanks for sharing,
Yildiz

Yildiz,
Thank you. Unfortunately we could not look through the telescope as there were classes being held.
Sometime in the future, we will try.
