Hi Mike,
I assume that you're very close to architecture at heart ...The photos you uploaded of late are leading me to think this way.
I think that the light in this photo is dipensing nicely and thus bringing out every crack and wear in the ancient stones and the marble statue.
Could you share which Alpha and lens you're using please?

Thank you for positive comments, i have a dynax 7, km 5d(broken), only using the A700 at the moment with kit lens 18-70, other lens need repair, otherwise would have been 24-105 Minolta, used to have 600si with 28-105 and miss that one a lot, old slides scanned using canon 2710 scanner.
i get nervous when sharpening in case i over do it, i still think slides looked better though.
