My first Alpha experience was the A100 kit which I have retained although I upgraded to the A700 with the 16-105 Kit lens. I have a few additional lenses and hope to add another one or two in the near future. One is likely to be a wide angle zoom within the 10-24mm range and I keep having thoughts about adding a constant aperture standard zoom of a more restricted range although I am uncertain just how worthwhile such a purchase would be. An alternative would be a faster prime lens somewhere in the 70-100mm range for portraits, as I have a 30mm 1.4 Sigma and 50mm 2.8 macro which are both very useful. I am also thinking about a system flash as I don't yet have one, and may wait until the new 58 is available. Unfortunately, family problems have not yet allowed me the time to exercise the 700 beyond a short workout.

In the past, I have owned a wide variety of cameras including most major brands of 35mm and medium format. My favourites were the Nikon F and Hasselblad 500CM both producing my best work.

Wow Claptonian, many resemblances we have here: A100 then A700 and being a Nikonian in film era.

Welcome! From a 'Blad to a Sony.... I suppose the cost of a back for the 'Blad is quite high so the A700 will "just have to do...."
I'm still using a KM 7D so can dream of an upgrade but my wife tells me to dream on.

If you have any good shots on the 30mm f1.4 I'd like to see them. Sigma has booked an advert in the next Photoworld for the 30mm f1.4 - I have only ever used it in Canon and Sigma SD fits, and I did not realise they had it available for Alpha. It back focused fairly consistently on Canon, the Sigma version was fine (but then, I have never known any Sigma SLR to have back focusing or similar problems, probably because they are knitted by hand).
