btw, what are the storage requirements per minute/second? Do they record proper mpeg (with intermediate frames or whatever they're called) or just a sequence of jpgs, I mean an mpeg where every frame is a full picture?

Sorry but no matter how you stack it. that camera can't keep up with a child at a birthday party ... that was a new user and he was complaining. I know he was "missusing" the camera but it should have steaked before it rolled like that no matter what Nikon shows on their site. the video just is not fast enough. So I read through the thread that was from and they report that Canon has the same problem on some of their true video cameras... sorry but that is a black eye for Canon no matter what. If the technology isn't ready... leave it in the box until it is

oh dear.... I was responding to you. I posted a video that was rolling maybe phil hasn't seen it. your right it's a canon thread... but I have to read the rest of this thread to see if there is anything I can add. The canon boys sure aren't likin it much. and i'm glad Phil is in ther championing it for the ones that do.

Thats inexcusable. Any camcorder from the 80's would have beaten this machine hands down from tape. I have a Kyocera (8 mm tape)and an JVC (1/2" tape) machines here <SNIP!>

Yes the picture quality is better. colour saturation sharpness but none of thats any good if my 2 year old can't be filmed on her swingset (Shes 16 now), Whats the diference if the camera is in motion and the subject is stationary vs the subject in motion and the camera on a tripod? ..ok the background won't be all distorted but the subject will be jello. and the look of it doesn't convey speed .. it's un natural.


Holy! Your squirrel example shows the effect pretty well! and thats from the canon camera your hitting us on the head with? Yes nice sharp . tripod shot... he's lucky he's covered in hair. if that was a stripped shirt with those jerky squirrel moves they never would have posted them. I can't beleive you don't see it especially when he moves his feet with whatever he's eating and along his side while he's breathing! are there any examples that show motion better? OH and on the night shot (of a traffic Jam ..seriosly, empty times square and a traffic jam?) one of the cars hits a pot hole driving away, don't you see the front and rear of the car move at different times like it was liquid in the middle?

Sorry.. how did you put it? "I call it like I see it. This technology is defective. People must treat this like certain cameras where you have to avoid certain kinds of shots because there not capable. A lot of the video you linked is stunning. a lot higher image quality than anything i've ever used. motion quality is another thing however. and these are video cameras afterall. Too many of yor samples. especially from the manufacturer sites that are avoiding certain kinds of pictures show that rolling effect, if you can't see it I can't help it.. Rant on if you want but I can't beleive with your video and HD experience you so willing to let that slide so easily I seriously thought you were joking with all your posts on this. Heh.. I still half think your laughing you A$$ off in your office or whatever.

The real fact of the matter is that ... Is that other people seemed to have noticed this same thing with this technology. that I never even knew was a problem untill I saw acomplaint from a D90 user

PS....Start linking the *flawed* videos to which you refer that I have posted, instead of continuing to blindly brand bash. You keep trashing the Canon and Nikon video and camera divisions, so point out exactly where, in what video(s), those horrible problems that you have so keenly detected are.

There are a lot of examples around.. I've shown you a couple of what it is. and pointed out where and what detail in the videos you posted show it. Weren't you reading along? and those are on factory approved sales material. are you denying this exists? because if you are your wrong because theres more info on that than you can shake a stick at concerning CMOS in video cameras as well as the quaintly termed "jello video" the rolling problems has already got a nickname (better close your eyes!)... and if your not then what are we arguing over?

PS. and besides.. how you gonna sell cheerleader and football videos on your web site? man is that even legal ? doesn't seem to fit your business

I knew a retired guy in NY . he and his wife had a camper they would bring to high school sporting events. they had a couple epson printes and PC's inside and were trying to sell pictures they took from the game to the fans and family right after the game. the problem was they would do well right at the beginning of the school season but before the end they were struggling. he got sick and had to stop but they had planned to take in more towns doing it'

PS. Phil recanted about the jello. and he hasn't posted a warning about the zero tolerance thing to any other forums except the one canon forum. It was a phone call I tell ya ..

No I can't read everything you post. i'll have to take your word for whats there. (I can't keep up .. in fact i'm still working right now. I just have to look away from the cad screen and read something once in a while) Man ditch that HP CRT holy.. yes I do realize the DSLR video is impressive. anyidea what they images are like after 20 or 50 minutes run time?

For gosh sakes...you can't even capture a good still frame when "panning really quickly"anyway...Really man, give the canon and Nikon bashing a rest for a while. The D5MKII HD video is impressive stuff for an SLR and you know it.

Sure I would use video every once in a while, but it's not a deal breaker for me...
So I'll just continue to shoot with my "crippled" (no video, no LV) D7D for a while

Kudos to Canon though for engineering what seems to be an excellent camera.

I just think it's odd that Canon's new full frame model is full of bells and whistles while Sony's is more pure and dedicated. I couldn't afford either camera, but they still help APS-C shooters like me by ensuring that there will always be good glass available with sharpness pushed out beyond my own frame. Granted, I would like to see Sony be more competitive so that there's a better case for delivering more and better full-frame lenses all the time. Maybe the a900 will come down in price because of the 5DmkII, or maybe there will be another crop sensor with a pentaprism that brings these goodies within my reach. Either way, my a700 isn't quite worn out yet, and I can wait a year or two to see what becomes of a-mount bodies.
