One thing that I have noticed is that many image links given by posters are now dead.
Unless of course I am missing something.

This happens with external image links in many forums when people clean out external image hosting accounts and forget about older forum posts. It is a good idea to use the Gallery feature in Photoclubalpha to store a suitable small copy of the pic, if you don't have an account with pBase or somewhere else which offers permanent storage.
