Having noticed my change in status, I looked it up.
Still stuggling with what I found.
I wasn't fond of the one that preceeded it either :D

I think ranks should be according to the member (that's a bit hard for the admins, but anyway), or as the other members may see or feel.

It took me 13 months to get half of the way to the next one.

Why ranks ???

23 years in the Army - lots of ranks

20 years Civil Service - more ranks

Grand Poobah...now that's something worth shooting for. Hmmm...at twenty posts per hour, how long would...

Rather than ranks I see it as reward for loyal posting 8) There is also a nice quirkey system and it is interesting to see what happens next (e.g. The Doc's avatar when he turned Grand Caliph!). Plus, as DK says, it is tailorable and hence Pako's unique 'reward'.

Don never complained - maybe he never noticed that his rank was permanently changed to 'Threadworm' after he blasted countless posts into a couple of threads and wrecked them. Or maybe he took it as a compliment...

I had assumed his rank was simply in that uncharted territory that no one else would get to anytime soon. Now I don't know what's beyond Viceroy any more...

Sorry for being off topic, but does anyone else keep getting distracted by the Evony add at the bottom of the page?

Not me, I've set my preferences so the latest posts appear at the top of pages. I never need to scroll down.

I banned SimplyElectronics.net ads (because they ripped me off and still have not refunded my money as far as I know) and may ban these as well.

Yep, that makes good sense.

Okay, keep the ranks and erm DK, as they say in the Navy, "how do I stand for promotion?"

Well, I don't know how you do in in the Navy, but in the Marine Corps, you stand at attention, erect and proud to know that what you're getting is well deserved!
