No chicken counting here, quite a few new registrations have to be removed within hours or days due to spam. Member 2000 will only be 'validated' if we don't get spam...

Good point! We'll have to wait patiently to see what dannycnl does. Will they be a photo-enthusiast, or a spam-enthusiast

? Perhaps as Harveyzone says, better to count the number of posters.

Count them? Heck I think I can name them! There really only seems be a few of us who post frequently. I'll bet the top 100 posters are 95% of the chatter!

I think that this has been true of every on-line forum I have followed for the last 30 years. Long ago, my rule-of-thumb assessment became that there were at least 50 lurkers for every individual who posted - and that was in a more-innocent era when most forums did not require registration to post.
With best wishes,

Summary:
In most online communities, 90% of users are lurkers who never contribute, 9% of users contribute a little, and 1% of users account for almost all the action.

I suspect this is the same in many endeavours - it often feels like this where I work

. I think it can be quite intimidating for some people posting on forums; I know that I never really contributed to any forums I joined until this one, which has a good combination of 'heavy-weight' expert content, as well as being very friendly and open to 'lighter' contributions.
