I read about this technology some time ago.

It's a pretty neat piece of technology, but I feel like I can only learn photography and use my equipment the right way if it'll let me make mistakes. These new technologies add options to correct the mistake afterwards, which is great, but also makes me a lazy photographer. Why should I care about composing, lighting and focus if I can edit it the way I like from the comports of my home?

The learning experience for me is one of the charming aspects about the hobby. Making mistakes is a critical part of that experience.

It's fine if you want F2 DOF on all your photos. Look at the examples, none of them have a large DOF.

It's also a bit misleading. Click the seals and try to get the house in the background in focus - can't be done.

Now, if I were a govt. agency, I might want some of these so I could use the variable focus to see what's going on in the background, but I see it as a limited feature gimmick.

Also to note: Only available in the USA, you need a MAC to use it, and it's not even available until 2012!

16GB = 750 shots. What is that, 4 MPs? Maybe less because it's a "whole light field", so therefore some sort of RAW. Maybe it's only 2 MPs!

I believe it's practical output resolution is 1080 pixels per side...no wonder they don't want to talk megapixels but instead "mega rays."
