Hits From Strange Places

My Flickr account got some hits from a page called "Camera Showdown," which can be found here: http://camerashowdown.com/Sony-SLT-A77V-vs-Canon-EOS-7D

I suppose I'm pleased that my image beat out somebody's shot from an EOS 7D, but then I have to wonder how my picture got there. Has anything similar happened to anybody else?

Hi KB - there seem to be a lot of sites like this. They seem to be able to work on the basis of people searching for content comparing two products. The site software then automatically fills content from other web sites (e.g. Flickr) against a set of criteria, and even manages to then produce scoring for some criteria. At first glance it looks like a proper review - until you find 4 or 5 sites all obviously running the same software, and the content doesn't bear close examination.

I would guess that you were hit KB as the comparison software was trying to find pictures tagged with A700.

I came across these sites for the first time last night. I was trying to find out about Windows 8 tablets for my wife's place of work. They are trying to decide whether to go iOS or Windows 8, and so I was comparing iPads to some of the cheaper tablets.

e.g. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Velbon-Super-Ma ... 567&sr=8-1

(For reference I think the decision will come down to available s/w and ease of use for my wife :) .)

I'm not greatly bothered by it. The ambition of the site to compare cameras by comparing 500 pixel photos from each is a little shallow, to say the least.

This site is more complimentary of efforts to make resources for other photographers, and I get more hits from it anyway:
