After recently speaking to a Nikon user, he suggested that when using the 70-400G lens and a 1.4 or 2x converter, and the AF switces to manual, that in order to get the sharpest images possible, he would use an angle finder which would increase the size of the image in the viewfinder and make it easier to fine tune the image and therefore give a sharper shot. I dont know if this is true, but in theory sounds feasable. Has anyone any thoughts on this. regards mal

For macro shots I have the sony magnifer. it makes it a lot easier on my A700 to focus on fine dretail. it wouldn't be suitalble for your 400mm but there are some "magnifying eyepieces" from Nikon and Pentax and seagul that work.
