I have bought this very old lens 280$ on Ebay last week .

(yes you can check on my Pbase ... but just try to find what is this lens before)

is it a 50mm macro ? or is one picture a crop from the other? It looks like 50mm in the one picture but mine won't focus that close. I knowthere was a 45mm MD lens but I don;t think there was an AF version

This is not fair! We need to know whether it is mounted on the a700 or the a900!

ok ... it is mounted on a A900.

Is it an original 50mm f/1.4? The price seems right, as does the DOF, however, I'd have guessed that was the angle of view for a 50mm on the a700.

Is it the famous Lensicon Vario-Planotessarion 8-800mm f/1.2 Macro?

In fact this is not a MACRO lens, but you are able to focus usually at minimum distance of 60mm with it.

Now on the A900, you can go up to around 52-55mm. (yes an another hint ... i have to modified it to fit on the A900).

Minolta 50mm F/1.4 was a good choice ... but this is not exactly it again . But you are very warm .

cheating a little bit.

Just about 1h30 and you are ready to shoot with a Maxxum Alpha mount (using the M42 confirm focus adapter, drill and a screw driver).

The lens i have got his not in very good shape (The back of the lens as some scratch and discoloration, and there is a small scratch on the front element). But even with this condition, the lens is able (when using correctly) to deliver impressive detail and it keeps it legendary out of focus creamy effect.

Gaining stop over a 1.4, and having a thigh deep of field, this lens is a killer for portrait and for my low light photography issue (i like to shoot small rock band in underground BAR, with almost now light, yes i know a Nikon or CAnon should be better ... but i love Minolta gear ).

But the Minolta MC Rokkor-PG 58 mm 1:1.2 does not focus to a minimum distance of 60 mm.

The Minolta 58mm F/1.2 is designed to be able to made only the face of a subject in the angle of view.

This means that you need to be at almost 60mm from the lens to have the full face in your viewfinder.

On the lens, there is clearly a .60mm focus distance as the shortest place you can focus.
