Photoclubalpha

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased one of these lenses, against all the negative findings before I made my acquisition. It came from the latest batch that arrived in October 2008 to Istanbul, Turkey. I experienced none of the problems concerning the lens buildwise or while functioning. The optical value is looking good and all parts work silently while autofocusing.

I believe I owe it to anyone who wishes to acquire this lens that they most probably will be getting a perfectly intact copy...Well, I at least wish them best of luck!

Lately I was out shooting some worn-out, derelict buildings dating from early 20th Century located on very narrow streets in Istanbul. May not be your most favourite subject, but the lens worked nicely during this shooting and I wished to share the outcome with you...

Any comments are welcome concerning the subject, composition, or all kinds things I might be missing..

I'm fortunate to get a very fine copy of the lens...
Interesting choice of photo...but I also like the colourful 'weariness' of the facades. I wanted to see how these dramatic facades would look in black/white cinema approach... Would make a nice movie plot...

The second one is right up my alley

I find the second more moody and illustrative to suit my thoughts too...and thank you Mr. Wizard!

Thanks. I have a feeling that the samples of this lens will be better in every way after Autumn 2008. And I agree that the stories would change significantly for each photo..

Yildiz, I've told you previously that ranks do have meanings. When you got the "Oligarch" title I congratulated you, but you were laughing. Now you see? Along with the rank comes something else. That's the magic of Photoclubalpha. Wait till you get at "Grand Caliph"...

So will it suddenly start raining cameras, lenses and accesories and a good fortune to top it all then? Should I get a big umbrella and turn it up side down? ...you know, just in case!

I know what you mean Don, the building is even more interesting in real life hence I spent the time to take photos of it. The colours are no different actually, I only used the raw converter to resize the photo for the forum and slightly cropped a building to the right of this one.

Ah, but this is only eagerness to find out Dr. Harout. But I still have a notion it will mean visits to some bank accounts!!
On the other hand though, there's room for miracles-in-works for me... I believe in surprising magical bits in the mysterious folds of life...

By the way, I should also be thanking David K. for the guidelines he offered before I purchased the lens. He made a note of all the failures I should look out for while checking the quality of the lens on arrival. But to my surprise the lens just turned out solid with none of those failings leaving me with the nice chore of taking photos instead...

...which I waited patiently for at least 10 months to come true! I was taught magics are supposed to work instantly ?!

You have to count from the moment you received "Oligarch" title...

I was really keen on this lens until the production wobbles came to light, the optics, as anyone can see in your photo are very good, I'm not sure I want to take the risk...yet.
Yildiz, be sure too get as many of these old buildings as you can, before the wrecking ball get's em first, I'm kicking myself at missing quite a few old buildings (with character, not like their modern replacements) around here, now they are gone forever.....problem is, one never knows when it's going too happen, they've been there like forever, and then "poof" seemingly overnight they are a pile of rubble, destined for some foundation fill somewhere
