Well, I don't have the funding but I guess this is one lens you should have owned before you die?

Indeed. This lens' performance is nothing short of amazing. Some years ago, a German-language photo magazine featured an article about the best lenses they've ever tested so far. The Minolta AF Apo 200 mm G was among the top-ten---the others being two Canon EF super-telephoto lenses, a Nikon lens, a Leica R lens, a Zeiss lens for Hasselblad and a few others. And is this exclusive group, the Minolta was the cheapest by a wide margin.

And in a Japanese similar study, from the top ten the first place earned the Minolta 100/2.8 Macro, and among the rest was the sole zoom lens 70-200 G. I don't remember the rest.

In my opinion, the AF Macro 100 mm 1:2.8 is a very good lens but both the AF 100 mm 1:2 and the AF Apo HS 200 mm 1:2.8 G are even better (at far focusing distances).
