I think the corner sharpness is bad, what do you think?
Hopefully it's because it's a pre-production model, but who knows...

I'm afraid I can't tell the difference much due to the size of the photo. And there's a lot of motion in the photo subjects: the man's head on the right-side corner is in motion, so is the attendant lady in the left-side corner. At this size I can easily interpret this as motion blur. Also, the ceiling is too dark to detect any softness in the upper corners too. Maybe the last photo where you shot the advertisement panel with the mother and daughter can be more definitive...

But it looks good, sort of, at this size... at least to me.

I think particularly in the last picture you can see how sharpness fail towards right when reading the text "AF 18-270..."

I downloaded the original size and cropped the parts that might be revealing the problem.
Please see where the yellow arrows point in the attachment.

Zeb, I do see a transition to softness in the 100% crops, the softness is more noticible in the upper crop than the lower though. If you think you were standing paralel to the panel's plane, then you're right about the softness.

Production lenses may be corrected of this defect though, I wouldn't worry about this at the moment...

That's a pretty rapid fall-off, but not very surprising for a lens of such ambitious focal length. Distortion looks good, though.

I have seen very large prints made from the 10-24mm marked with all the data, including apertures and focal lengths used, at photokina. They were good - not faked, with a normal expected degree of stretching and softening of detail into the extreme corners. I would rate them as equal to the 11-18mm, or better. The prints were about 1m x 1.5m each. On the basis of those, anyone would be safe to consider the lens usable at 10mm and full aperture (which some shots were - though most, and the best examples, were at apertures like f10 and showed the usual tropical beach scene sort of stuff).

It would give a fair fight to the rest of the class- and is very light lens, lighter than the Sigma 10-20 I own. Seems Backpackers just got their Ideal W/A landscape zoom.

Well if David says they were good, that's ok by me!
So will sony re-badge this one and sell it, or is this a tamron only lens??
Still the good news is that when it hits the market, the 11-18mm might be a bit of a bargain.
