16-80cz Build Improved Over Time?

Hi,
I bought my copy of this lens back in June last year, and I'm wondering if people who've bought more recent examples are still seeing the movement in the barrels and slight slack in the focus ring that mine came with. Does anyone know if production and build quality has improved as time has gone on?

Hello Marktuma,
I bought my copy at the end of October 2008 and been using cz 16-80mm constantly ever since. I shot about 9000+ frames and it's still in excellent same condition of when I first got it on the camera. The lens had no issues of wobbling, slackening of the focal ring, weird sounds or optical elements acting unsually. It even can withstand a rainshower as I once experienced a real soaking when it was on the camera.
No problems at all....

Sorry to steal the thread, but Yildiz, how much did you shoot then with the A100 overall? I changed mine after 5000+ shots.

Hi Dr. Harout,
I shot well over 15.000 with my A100. I have to check with my previous files to give an exact number but I remember the camera resetting itself during one of my shoots and starting over from 'no: 0001' once again. I thnk that was a month ago or so.
Still though, strange as it may seem or because I read a lot of user thoughts on shutter-life and on camera life span I have to say that the my A100 is showing great performance. My reluctant phase from when the camera was bought is over and I can be very quick with set-ups and composition now which enables a better shooting performance/time. And as to the condition of the camera after all the hard work? Not once faltering in any way. No shutter lag or getting stuck or in-camera problems. The only thing that I need being a more speedy camera is only to be attained by purchasing an improved version of the Alpha system be it an A700, A900, or some ingenius new model.
I haven't yet experienced the 'aging' that so many camera owners speak of... I kind of think that that's due to having an actual good copy of the A100.

If I have to compare A100 and A700 regarding ruggedness, well you might know it well, too. But as you said you either had a good copy, or is it that Sony entering the DSLR market build the first a tough one (but not on the outer appearance).

You could be right about the functional structure of the A100.
