Sony repair: slider unit replaced...??!!

They suggest a slider unit was replaced on the camera, but it would not surprise me if it's actually something in the lens (something that moves the lenses maybe ?)

Is anyone able to tell me what a slider unit is, and what it has to do with BF on my 70200G that I sent in together with my a700 ?
Thanks.

Wow ! Many thanks Sonolta.

What's function of the camera is involved in this ? Is it the anti-shake unit ? Or is it simply related to the way the cmos is mounted is
the frame (#559) ?

no kiddin ??
They already had the camera AF unit replaced and recalibrated the body(320 euro). Together with this one, repair parts will easily cross the line of 600 US dollars ! They should have given me a new one in the first place..

But Sonolta, to be honoust, I do not understand a thing of it.
I showed them backfocus of the 70200G using MLU, no SSS and the a700 on a tripod. so AS is no issue.
And suppose the AS is faulty (which I doubt cause I could take pictures at 1/10 sec), surely that will not cause a BF ?
Besides, if there would be any effect of the AS function (probably blur), it would be increasingly visible towards the long end. But my problem grows towards the wide end...

Sonolta, you could be right about the sensor being connected to a 'possibly faulty unit'. That would cause any adjustment to result in new problems.
tomorrow I will be hearing from them so maybe I can be happy by then :D .
Otherwise, I will be the opposite :x If so, I will demand a full refund cause this isn't going to ruin my photography during the summer holidays for sure !

Btw, my AF unit was replaced within four months after purchase :?

Well so far ...not so good ! :x

I tested the repaired unit and though they said they tested the 70200g with the A700 and all was oké, there is no doubt they simply have no clue what they are doing or saying.
I took about 75 pictures at F/2.8, 70mm and 100mm mostly, and 95% showd clear backfocus. With tripod or without, SSS of or on ( (shutter speed went to 1/4000 sec. in bright light), backfocus everywhere.

This is just one example. In the circle is where the focus lies:

So I've called them again, after having mailed them the test pictures ("real life" pictures as well) and they said they would evaluate it somewhere before the weekend...
I immediately called Sony to start the procedure of a full refund of both the 70200g and the A700 kit.

They sure need AF-adjustment in all bodies. But with zooms you do not need the one adjustment fits the entire zoom range approach as in the A900. Most of the time AF is off it varies across the range, like mine does. The only resque is an AF adjustment like in the Olympus E30-E3 and E620, maybe not with all sensors adjustable but with the option to use focal distance dependent adjustment without the presets.

After I found out that the pictures still back focused, I called the repair center. I confronted them with the Sony policy that equipment that has to be sent in for the tird time, will be replaced for a new one.
They weere very impolite and told I got it all wrong. I insisted I was right, but than they said 'give me the name who said so'. Apperently, the were not inclined to check it themselves, so I called Sony Netherlands to get a confirmation.
I got that, and a name. So I called the service center again, and this time the Sony employee got it wrong...
I made them clear they would have to sort out their communicational problems themselves, and informed them I would file a complaint and ask for a refund.
Well, that hurt. All of sudden a cold air was flowing through the telephone, telling me that if they had the time they would have look at it....yeah sure.
Sony Netherlands called me back the day after, and apparently they had some kind of discussion with MBS E2E, the repair company. The whole case was lifted to level 3 at Sony Neth., which means it surpasses the service center and it has become 'an urgent matter'.
Next thing the Sony lady tells me they want me to do some sort of standardized test. I will receive instructions from Sony, and the raw files with exif data (I did not know you could strip it from a raw file) have to ben sent to Sony. Depending on the pictures, they will give a final verdict.

Interestingly, the very nice lady was instructed to tell me 'such lenses allways have some back focus'. Now, I can accept that the DOF can be slightly shifted, but that's all. She probably did not know what she said as the poor lady admitted she was a nitwit with cameras. But to be honoust, such a lens at 200 mm lens and at F/2.8 does not allow much shift before it ruins the image ...
Anybody have an idea what kind of test this is supposed to be ( I will get it by Monday) ???
