Hi all! This is my very first post in this forum. Soon, I'll go on a safari and I have a Sony A350 and a 18-70mm lens and I've figured out it is not enough for this kind of photos.
I have a £300 budget to spend and I have been checking these lenses:
Sigma 70-300mm f/4,0-5,6 DG APO Macro
Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2

Which one do you think it's the best? Are there any better lenses at this price?

Hi, and welcome to the forum.
I don't have first hand knowledge of either of those lenses you've given, but Don (Sonolta), regularly posts excellent shots taken with his Sigma 70-300 APO so I wouldn't have any qualms about that lens if I needed one in that range.

ps. There were reports of the odd breakage of the focus gear in the Sigma, but that was quite some time ago and may no longer be an issue.

I have the Tamron and am quite happy with it, do get a lot of CA, but it's fixable in PP (I use DxO). have never used the sigma.
In Australia the sigma cost more so that why I went with the Tamron

But I will agree with Greg, Don has posted some top shots with the sigma

Too much reports, I think. Check Dyxum.com, you'll find lots of photos there.

The APO Sigma is definitely the better lens (but considerably more expensive than the Tamron, or at least it used to be). The Tamron is still pretty good, but need stopping down one stop approx to clean up the image. The Sigma should be better wide open, and you may need to shoot wide open.

and what about this one? Sony 75-300mm F4.5-5.6 - is it better than the sigma?

No, that Sony is a very cheap lens - better than the price might indicate, but not apochromatic in any sense, and pretty soft at the long end. It's not unusable by any means and probably a fair match for the Tamron but almost an entire f-stop slower at many focal lengths.
