My manual focus ring will not turn on my 1680Z. This is whether it is attached to my a350 in manual focus or unattached. It does however work in Auto focus mode. I'm wondering if there is anything I can do or look at before sending it to Sony for repair? I'm not sure what happened to cause the focus ring to stop turning because I always use auto focus. It could have never worked for all I know.

I also have the Sony 50mm/F1.4 and noticed that images are sharper than the 1680Z set at 50mm. Is this to be expected, or is my 1680Z just screwed up all-around ?

Not always bust most of the time a decent prime will be sharper than any zoom. and that 50mm is a very nice sharp lens.

I don;t have a 16-80 so I can't comment on the focus ring but it it won't turn even off the camera then i'd say it's borked and needs repair
