i`m thinking to sell my 70-400
for kingfishers it`s great to work with a fixed-lens
i can buy a MINOLTA 300MM F4 HS ,

but iàm not sure what i must do , i have also the SAL 70-200 , so till 200mm i have this lens

if i buy the 300 MM i have 100MM less

Sell 70-400 and buy 300/4 and 1.4X APO TC!

I have now 200/2.8 and 400/4.5 + 1.4XTC with A900 mainly for taking bird photos. If I remember right you have A700 and 300/4 would be perfect combination with that. In fact I am considering to sell both 200/2.8 and 400/4.5 and buy 300/4.0 instead of them.

i had my doubts , i stay with my 70-400 , i think it`s a great lens
this 300MM F4 is in mint condition

I had a Minolta 300 f4 G HS paired with a Minolta 1.4x converter for eight or so years, and while the 300 provided excellent images, when used with the converter there was a fair amount of CA. When I got a 70-400 I compared the two and there was really nothing in it image quality wise (sharpness) at max aperture, but a whole lot less CA than the 300 and TC combination. I sold the 300 and 1.4x and recouped a fair amount on the cost of the 70-400, and gained all of the focal lengths that the 300 and 1.4x didn't cover!

Wise decision Gustav.
Instead make some great Kingfisher/vultures shot with that lens and let Sony use them again.
Second gift might be a 300/2.8 (I really wish it for you).

Good to know, I will keep my 400/4.5, it is excellent also with TC, at least with f5.6.

I haven't bought anything really expensive for my camera for at least 1 year. Decided rather than getting more ok-lenses I'll save up and get 1 really good one and the 70-400 is on top of my list (unless Sony will announce that 24-120/4 G SSM at PMA). Reading only good things about the 70-400 everywhere, including from you! Just read some stuff on Luminous Landscape and the 70-400 gets nothing but praise.
