Is anybody else excited about the new Tamron SP 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD as an alternative to Sony's 70-300/4.5-5.6 G? It looks very similar in size and ergonomics to the 70-300 G, and is only 5 grams away in weight. The minimum focus distance is slightly longer in the Tamron, (1.5m vs. 1.2m), but curiously the reproduction ratio is the same at 1:4. I am anxious to see where it is positioned, price wise, as Tamron lenses have historically been quite reasonable.
Some lenses from another manufacturer have, in the past, lost features on their way to the Sony mount. However, there is very little reason to question if the vibration compensation or ultrasonic silent drive motor of this lens will make it to the Sony mount version.
